Horney's List of Neurotic Needs

Wednesday April 5, 2006
Have you ever known someone who seemed to have a pathological need to by liked by others? According to theorist Karen Horney, this behavior is due to a neurotic need for affection and approval. In her book Self-Analysis (1942), Horney outlined her theory of neurosis, describing different types of neurotic behavior as a result of overusing coping strategies to deal with basic anxiety. These behaviors include such things as the neurotic needs for power, prestige, and affection.

Learn more about the three broad categories of needs and the needs identified by Horney in this article on Horney's List of Neurotic Needs.

CCCCD and Rockwall Students, we talked about this! Psychoanalytic theorists propose different views of how our personalities develop. This is an excellant overview of a quasi Freudian view. Bring this home as a current event!

I was involved in an anaylitical, (human primate study), before, without my knowledge. I recognize the fact that this sort of “study”, goes on-and-on, in many realms. Fortunately, I do not mind. Coments/surveys(?), are okay, to me, in my opinion. All words aside, I agree with much of what you have so dearly researched and shared. Great-good work, “Watson” :-) , and thanks.
