Definition: The acronym ISTP stands for one of the 16 different personality types identified by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Developed by Isabel Myers and her mother Katherine Briggs, the MBTI is based upon Carl Jung's theory of personality types and looks at four different dimensions of personality.

In this case, ISTJ stands for introversion, sensing, thinking and perceiving. Psychologist David Keirsey has suggested that around four to six percent of all people have the ISTP personality type. People with this personality are frequently described as action-oriented, fiercely independent and very logical.

Learn more about the characteristics of this type in this overview of the ISTP personality.
