1835 - Ewald Hering Was Born
Hering was a German physiologist who conducted research on color vision and spatial perception. He proposed an opponent process theory of color vision, which suggested that color perception is controlled by the activity of opponent systems; a blue-yellow mechanism, a red-green mechanism and a black-white mechanism. His theory is widely regarded as correct and has had a strong influence on modern theories of color vision. He also discovered an optical illusion, which is now referred to as the Hering Illusion.
1903 - Rensis Likert Was Born
Likert was an American educator and organizational psychologist who is best-known for his research on management styles and the development of the Likert Scale.
1905 - Walter Fleming Died
Fleming was a German scientist who is best-known for discovering mitosis. The Carnegie Institution for Science named Fleming's discovery one of the 100 greatest scientific discoveries of all time.
